Origin of golden retriever
The breed first created at the British Isles. The cross was done between many varieties. The breed originally came as Golden Flat-Coat. Flat-Coated Retriever of yellow color, Tweed Water Spaniels with light coat, some further spaniels, the Newfoundland, the Bloodhound and setters were probably crossed to get the Golden breed.
The general description of Golden Retriever
The Golden Retrievers live for ten to twelve years and are very charming, good mannered and smart dogs that can quickly learn and are well liked by children. In short they have all the characteristics to be the best family dog capable of hunting down; detecting narcotics and can swim well. The weight generally is between 55 to 80 pounds and their height is between 20 to 24 inches. There are some medical problems associated with them like skin allergy which is very common. These dogs have the tendency to catch infections of eye which are quite innate and hip dysplasia is common. For these reasons both the parents are tested out for any heart problem and for the disease of Von Willebrand. Both of the parents must have OFA as well as CERF official recognition. The Golden Retrievers can acquaint well with the apartments. The dogs like any other breed needs adequate exercises. You must make sure that everyday walking or jogging or running is done by the golden. They enjoy playing games. Do follow proper diet and you must not feed him in excess as it is not good for his health. They can be groomed quite easily. Bathe the dog when required. You can gently comb as well as brush the coats and be considerate about the basecoat. They shed at average interval. The Golden Retriever is a very good example of bird dog. They are also very obedient and make perfect companions. Their nose smells almost anything. So these dogs will love to please you if you give them kind treatment. But at the same time you also have to watch their activity though they are not harmful by nature.
